AHLA Names Patricia A. Markus as New Association President

Washington, D.C. – AHLA is pleased to announce the appointment of Patricia A. Markus, JD, CIPP/US, as the new Association President for the coming year. Markus began her term as president on July 1st.
“It has been an honor to associate with Trish over the years and see the influence she provides as an ambassador for health law,” said David S. Cade, Chief Executive Officer of AHLA. “Her dynamic passion for health care and drive to get things done will be a major contributor in AHLA’s future success. I look forward to seeing what she will accomplish in the coming year.”
Markus graduated with her juris doctorate degree from the Boston College Law School and is a Health Privacy and Technology Law Partner at Nelson Mullins. She represents health care providers and health technology companies across the country on wide-ranging regulatory compliance, reimbursement, licensure, and operational matters, emphasizing issues related to health information privacy, security, and technology. Markus has been a member of AHLA for over 20 years, serving in many capacities as a speaker, leader, chair, and voice for health law.
“To serve in the role of AHLA President is the honor of a lifetime,” Markus said. “Over the coming year, I look forward to working alongside my AHLA Board and staff colleagues to begin implementing AHLA’s new strategic plan, with the goal of strengthening and modernizing the organization for a new generation of health law professionals. I also plan to highlight the association’s work to advance the public interest, including through education to increase understanding of and reduce stigma associated with behavioral health conditions.”
