Eligibility Requirements

This award is open to health law professionals who demonstrate:

• Sustained commitment to HIT educational activities with positive impact on AHLA members through speaking, writing, and educational resource development
• Innovative approaches to ensure the highest level of Health IT education
• Leadership through contributions to AHLA programs including webinars, conferences, publications, or Practice Group activities
• Active membership in AHLA's Health Information and Technology Practice Group
• High level of commitment to Health IT education within AHLA's membership
• Active mentoring of AHLA members who focus on Health IT legal and regulatory issues

Nomination Criteria

• Recognizes Health IT Educational Leadership – demonstrates sustained commitment to advancing Health IT legal education
• Encourages Innovation in Education – recognizes innovative approaches to Health IT education delivery, encouraging creative programming and resource development
• Supports Mentoring and Development – actively mentors and helps to develop the next generation of Health IT legal experts
• Elevates AHLA's Health IT Leadership – is a thought leader and has demonstrated a career-long commitment to advancing Health IT education and leadership in building bridges across healthcare communities

Nomination Process

This award requires nomination by an AHLA member; self-nominations are accepted. Members are encouraged to identify and nominate colleagues who exemplify extraordinary commitment and dedication to Health IT educational efforts and mentoring. Past recipients are not eligible. Members currently serving on the AHLA Board of Directors are not eligible for consideration.

Nominations are accepted year-round. The Review Period occurs in January each year. Nominations submitted during the Review Period will automatically be considered for the following year's award cycle.

Selection Process

A dedicated judging panel evaluates all submissions using a scoring rubric based on the established criteria. Panel members commit to thoroughly reviewing applications, participating in virtual consensus meetings, and maintaining objectivity by disclosing any potential conflicts of interest. This structured review process ensures consistent and fair assessment of each candidate's contributions to both AHLA and the health law profession.

An individual appointed to serve on the judging panel is not eligible to be considered for the Award while they serve on the panel. To ensure focused attention, members may serve on only one judging panel at a time.

The recipient is honored during AHLA's Winter Institute.
