My father was a sportswriter for the Chicago Tribune and a lifelong Cubs fan—a preference he passed along to me. As painful as it was to follow the Cubs from the mid-1970s through the late 1980s (during this time, with three exceptions, they finished between fourth and sixth place each year in their six-team division), I religiously reviewed the box scores and either watched the games on television or read articles about them in the next day’s paper (many of them written by Dad). I always loved experiencing games at Wrigley Field and even worked there one summer as a teenager.
