Early Career Professionals—Suturing a Generational Divide: How We Can Lessen Generational Differences Between Mentor and Mentee

Unprecedented in history, today’s workforce is occupied by five generations. As a result, the formation of an effective mentor-mentee relationship can oftentimes be burdened by generational differences. These differences can surface in various ways, from differences in availability to how one introduces oneself on the phone. However, with adequate communication and expectations from both mentor and mentee at the beginning of their relationship, these differences can easily be mitigated and hopefully result in the growth of each party’s ability to adapt as well as empathize with generational differences in the workplace.
