The Biden administration has released its long-awaited—and controversial—final rule requiring minimum staffing requirements for nursing homes. The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) established these minimum standards to address ongoing safety and quality concerns for the 1.2 million residents receiving services in Medicare and Medicaid certified Long-Term Care (LTC) facilities each day. But industry leaders decry the measure as a one-size-fits-all attempt to solve a complex problem, and they worry that the new mandate will force many homes to close.
