UPMC to Pay $38 Million to Settle Whistleblower Action Alleging Stark Violations

The University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC) will pay $38 million to resolve a long-running False Claims Act (FCA) qui tam action alleging it improperly billed Medicare for services that employed neurosurgeons performed in violation of the Stark Law, according to a press release issued by the attorneys representing the whistleblowers in the case.
