HHS Dropping Appeal of Decision Nixing Online Tracking Technologies Guidance

The federal government is withdrawing its appeal of a Texas federal district court decision holding the Department of Health and Human Services Office for Civil Rights (OCR) exceeded its statutory authority in issuing guidance the agency said was aimed at clarifying how health care providers can use online tracking technologies while complying with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
