CMS Takes Steps to Reduce Inappropriate Use of Antipsychotic Drugs in Nursing Homes

Nursing homes that erroneously code residents with a schizophrenia diagnosis could see their star ratings downgraded in a move aimed at reducing the inappropriate use of antipsychotic medications, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) announced January 18 in a Quality, Safety & Oversight Group memorandum.
