Federal Court Gives Preliminary Approval to Blue Cross Blue Shield $2.8 Billion Antitrust Settlement

The U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Arkansas has preliminarily approved a settlement under which Blue Cross Blue Shield will pay $2.8 billion to resolve a long-running antitrust action alleging its plans improperly divided up geographic markets to dampen competition, resulting in lower reimbursements to health care providers.
