OCR Warns Puerto Rico Psychiatric Hospital About Disability Discrimination Violation

The Department of Health and Human Services Office for Civil Rights (OCR) has notified San Juan Capestrano Hospital in Puerto Rico that it violated federal civil rights laws prohibiting discrimination on the basis of disability by failing to provide a sign language interpreter to a patient for a court-ordered psychiatric evaluation, the agency said September 12.
