OIG Flags Improper Payments to Hospitals for Mechanical Ventilation

Medicare improperly paid an estimated $79.4 million to hospital for mechanical ventilation provided to patients that did not last 96 or more consecutive hours, the Department of Health and Human Services Office of Inspector General (OIG) found in a recent audit covering inpatient claims with dates of service from October 1, 2015 through September 30, 2021.
