Over the last 25+ years, the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Office of Inspector General (OIG) has imposed Corporate Integrity Agreements (CIAs) on participants in all key segments of the health care industry in exchange for continued participation in federal health care programs. While onerous for the company that must fulfill the obligations, CIAs are a valuable source of guidance, and they inform the evolution of best practices for compliance and ethics programs in the operative industry segment.
