AHLA Celebrates the Winners of the Health Law Regulatory & Compliance Competition, hosted by the University of Maryland

Washington, D.C. - AHLA is delighted to celebrate the winners of the Health Law Regulatory & Compliance Competition, hosted by the University of Maryland Francis King Carey School of Law, and sponsored by AHLA.  

This annual competition, now in its 12th year, attracted students representing law schools from across the country. The top three winning teams received prizes courtesy of the AHLA and the Food and Drug Law Institute (FDLI). This year’s first prize team, American University Washington College of Law was coached by AHLA board member Asha Scielzo. 

"This competition provides a terrific opportunity for students to hone analytical and communication skills while navigating the complex and dynamic field of health law,” comments Asha Scielzo, President-Elect Designate for AHLA and the Director of the Health Law and Policy Program at the American University Washington College of Law. “Congratulations to all the students who participated and to AUWCL’s team for their first-place win! It was a pleasure to coach these bright and dedicated students.” 

The Winners of this competition are as follows:  

Third Place 

• Sydney Straub, Ryan Platt, & Nicole Doherty  from Boston University School of Law. Coached by Lawrence Vernaglia and Dianne McCarthy 

Second Place: 

• Byron Cheung, Jordan Jekel, & Melissa La Motta from University of Maryland Francis King Carey School of Law  

First Place: 

• ​ Anh-Thi Le, Hannah J. Zuckerman, & Christopher A. Sang from American University Washington College of Law. Coached by Asha Scielzo
