During the surges of Covid-19, a string of lawsuits made their way into headlines, primarily concerning attempts by patients and their families to force hospitals to administer (or allow for the administration of) ivermectin, a disputed potential treatment for Covid-19. Whether or not ivermectin is an effective remedy for Covid-19 is not the focus of this article, but the debate surrounding this issue illuminated an often-complicated intersection of law and medicine.
