Home-Based Care Comes to the Forefront

The COVID-19 pandemic led people to spend considerably more time at home. For many Americans, including those with chronic health conditions, stay-at-home orders and social distancing caused significant disruptions in access to health care services, including doctor visits, medication management, and nutritional services, and resulted in lower utilization of routine and other specialized medical services. While adequate access to health care has been a long-standing concern for many, the COVID-19 pandemic amplified the need for some level of medical care to be available without physically visiting the doctor’s office and spurred increased advocacy and policy support, as well as financial investment, in home-based care.
