Kuei, Partner, Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman LLP and Melanie Sanders, DEI Consultant, The Diversity Movement The legal landscape of diversity, equity, inclusion and accessibility (DEIA) efforts is ever-changing. This past year, we’ve seen over a dozen states and the Supreme Court take on DEI-related issues—actions which may have an impact on DEI initiatives in the workplace. The DEIA and the Law session aim to discuss the ways to navigate these changes, while continuing to bolster DEIA initiatives. By analyzing case studies and engaging in targeted discussions, participants will learn practical strategies to advance their DEIA initiatives while minimizing legal risk. The session will also explore how to drive transformative change and advance a more inclusive and equitable future within corporate America.

It involves examining how current laws regulate the collection, storage, and usage of personal information in the context of AI technologies. The legal framework aims to mitigate biases in AI algorithms to ensure fair and unbiased outcomes. Key considerations include data protection laws, privacy regulations, and ethical guidelines for AI development. The goal is to strike a balance between innovation and safeguarding individual rights.
Discussion Topic - Utilizing DE&I to Advance Health Equity Diversity, equity, and inclusion are appearing in more national benchmarking and accreditation criteria to advance health equity. Leaders in hospitals and health systems often think of DE&I and health equity as separate areas, and are now trying to better understand how they relate to one another. Understanding how to articulate goals and develop tactics to strengthen team dynamics and improve patient care among different populations are imperative. By recognizing and addressing the unique needs of different demographic groups, teams can contribute to reducing health disparities and promoting equitable healthcare outcomes. Additionally, fostering an inclusive environment enhances employee satisfaction, retention, and compliance with legal and ethical imperatives for diversity in health care workplaces.
