Medicaid Panel Calls for Increasing Transparency of Private Plan Denials, Appeals

The Medicaid and CHIP Payment and Access Commission (MACPAC) recommended ways to help improve transparency and oversight of Medicaid managed care denials and appeals in its March 2024 report to Congress, including requiring states to establish an independent, external medical review process and to conduct clinical audits of denials to assess clinical appropriateness.
