Texas Legal Threats to Abortion Providers Practicing Telemedicine Could Put All Telehealth Access at Risk

On February 13 in a default ruling, a Texas judge permanently enjoined a New York provider to stop prescribing and sending abortion pills to patients in Texas and to pay a penalty of more than $100,000, plus attorneys fees, for allegedly providing the medication to one patient. The lawsuit vaguely accuses the provider of practicing medicine without a license for prescribing abortion pills to a Texas patient via telehealth.
