Washington Hospital Agrees to $240,000 HIPAA Settlement of Medical Record “Snooping” Allegations

Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital in Washington will pay $240,000 to voluntarily resolve allegations that several security guards at its facility impermissible accessed the medical records of 419 patients in violation of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), the Department of Health and Human Services Office for Civil Rights announced June 15.
