Ninth Circuit Again Revives Parity Action Against United over Coverage of Substance Use Disorder Treatment

The Ninth Circuit revived April 11 for a second time a putative class action against UnitedHealth Group, Inc. and related entities (United) for allegedly applying a more stringent internal review process to mental health and substance use disorder treatment (MH/SUD) claims than to comparable medical/surgical claims in violation of the Mental Health Parity and Addiction Equity Act of 2008 (Parity Act).
