Home health care company owner Faith Newton was sentenced to 12 years in prison, followed by three years of supervised release, and was ordered to pay a $250,000 fine and $99,734,517 in restitution, U.S. Attorney for the District of Massachusetts Leah B. Foley announced January 23.
According to a press release, from January 2013 to January 2017, Newton operated Arbor Homecare Services LLC through which she billed for home health services that were never provided.
In addition, Arbor, through Newton and others, paid kickbacks for patient referrals, regardless of medical necessity and entered into sham employment relationships with patients’ family members to provide home health aide services that were not medically necessary and/or did not occur.
