HHS Invests $600 Million in COVID-19 Test Manufacturing, Restarts Free Test Program
- September 22, 2023
The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) awarded 12 domestic manufacturers a total of $600 million to bolster the U.S. supply of COVID-19 tests, the agency announced September 20.
HHS said the move will add roughly 200 million new over-the-counter COVID-19 tests to the federal government’s inventory for future use.
At the same time, the agency is also restarting a popular program to provide free COVID-19 tests to households across the country. Beginning September 25, households can order up to four free tests through COVIDTest.gov.
