HHS Partners with Upstream to Expand Contraceptive Care Access

  • June 23, 2023

The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) announced June 21 a new public-private partnership with Upstream, a national nonprofit that provides health centers with training and technical assistance on contraceptive options, as part of the administration’s ongoing efforts to secure access to reproductive care.

The five-year agreement with Upstream will focus on expanding access to contraception in primary health care settings across the country, particularly in areas that lack providers offering the full range of contraceptive methods.

Under the multi-year partnership, HHS and Upstream will provide free technical assistance, training, and education on contraceptive care in primary care settings, a press release said.

“Both HHS and Upstream share a common goal of improving women’s health, increasing access to contraception, and addressing disparities in contraceptive care,” said Mark Edwards, CEO of Upstream. “Through this partnership, we will ensure health care facilities across the U.S. are equipped with the training, tools, and resources needed to offer their patients the high-quality contraceptive care they need and deserve.”
