About
The health care industry has been pushed to innovate and evolve at exceptional rates due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Over the past two years, our country has witnessed extraordinary advancements made by health care companies, unprecedented legislation enacted by every level of government, and heroic feats made daily by our health care providers.
And through it all, the health law profession has been providing analysis, assessing risk, ensuring compliance, and making recommendations to their organizations and clients, ultimately building to better health outcomes for all Americans. Every industry of the health care sector has been pushed beyond their limits, striving towards a healthier nation. Health law professionals have risen to the occasion by innovating and evolving just as quickly as the organizations they serve.
In this ever-shifting health care landscape, the profession has been pushed at times to build the plane while already flying. However, we must make time to acknowledge growth, share wisdom, and work together to identify new solutions to these new problems. The building blocks of the health law community are so essential to this forward progress.
Health Law Week is about increasing awareness of this integrated and integral profession within the health care industry, highlighting programs that create new opportunities for entry into the profession, showcasing organizations/firms dedicated to employing these professionals, and elevating this community’s contributions to the health care industry.
We invite all health lawyers, health risk managers, compliance officers, health information professionals, economists, paralegals, students of health law, and anyone else who touches health law to participate, engage, and lift up the health law profession.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the history of Health Law Week?
Originally, the Young Professionals Council began organizing periodic pop-up events/happy hours to bring young professionals together to discuss their work in health law, involvement in AHLA, and share how prospective members could join AHLA and get involved too. To better organize these efforts, AHLA Day was created, with four primary events coordinated by AHLA with sponsorship from firms and companies. The goal was to increase awareness and recruit young professionals and other prospective members into AHLA. The first AHLA Day was held in 2017.
Over the last several years on AHLA Day, other smaller events were also hosted and planned by various leaders and advertised along with the four primary events. Although attendance and engagement at these events have risen over the years, logistically, trying to fit all of these activities into one day has become cumbersome. It was time to reimagine the original concept, expand upon it, and reintroduce it as Health Law Week in June of 2021.
