Speaker Expectations
AHLA conference attendees invest a considerable amount of time and money to attend our conference. In order to best serve our attendees’ educational needs, AHLA’s volunteers and staff work hard to ensure each and every session at the conference realizes its full potential.
Our attendees expect that our speakers will:
- Develop a detailed description of what will be addressed in the session so that attendees can make informed decisions about which sessions to attend
- Prepare for their session prior to arrival, which includes the coordination with co-presenters
- Have a significant knowledge and expertise of the subject area, and have sufficient presentation skills to effectively communicate
- Submit a detailed outline and PowerPoint slides
- Engage the audience
- Be conscious of the time limitation of their presentation so that sessions start and end on time and when there is more than one speaker, divide the time so that each speaker has adequate time
- Not engage in marketing the services of their firm/organization
- Not simply read directly from the slides
- Dress in a professional manner for the presentation
- Be available to answer attendees’ questions
